The labyrinth
is a great circle,
radiating a soft invitation
from its narrow entrance
to pilgrims of life, wandering
in search of wisdom in their souls.
Leave your puzzled mind outside,
wandering aimlessly
in a maze of its own
as it looks for finite answers
to the wrong questions.
Inside the sacred vessel,
in the suggestive moonlight,
a path leads quickly towards the center then
out, by turns, to the periphery, offering several
glimpses inside.
Passersby glance in, looking
for that which eyes cannot see.
There is only one way in.
At the core truth waits,
as silent and patient as the stars.
Pilgrims walk north, south, east, west,
all moving towards the sacred middle, approaching,
meeting,
pondering visions from various passages:
birth, youth, maturity, death.
The journey inside is long
with many unexpected turns
for the student and teacher inside,
with as many questions as answers,
all illuminated by the window to truth.
Around the last bend to the center,
each pilgrim is greeted not by crowds
but by his own courageous soul,
waiting by the shores of silence,
gathering shadow, contradiction, light.
We are following the way of light,
tracing a path through swirling sands
along an ancient course almost forgotten. Outside
a desert; inside cleansing waters.
It is time to drink from a different cup.
